Damage Build Guide — what I actually run after UPDATE 4

Patched 2026-04-24 · solo play, Sydney server

There are three build families that matter in this game right now: Ackerman-ODM Crit, Titan Shifter, and pure ODM. UPDATE 4 shuffled the priority order of all three. I've been running each for about a week and the answer I keep coming back to is: it depends on who you're fighting.

Ackerman / ODM Crit

Crit on ODM blades, ~1.45x effective multiplier. I had this at 1.55x pre-patch, and the new crit window is tighter — the parry arc shrank, so button-mashing through it doesn't work the way it used to. This build is strongest on Colossal Titan (big predictable hitbox) and weakest on Armored (the nape fix eats your crits).

Best Ackerman stack: Tier-A or Tier-S serum, Luck III, sharp-blade mod. I've been running the ballistic dagger secondary mostly because I like how it looks, not because it's optimal. The data-optimal pick is the serrated wire, but that's a preference thing.

Titan Shifter

Shifter form multiplier around ~1.32x, sustained. The trade-off is a hit tax — you take damage in shifter form you wouldn't in ODM — but the forgiving timing windows mean you can turn off your brain a little. I run this when I'm tired or half-paying-attention, which is most nights.

Shifter variance is real. I had two runs at Tier-A shifter where the same build produced damage readings around 10% apart with nothing else changed. I don't know if that's server tick or intended mechanic. Flag the variance when you're trying to min-max.

Pure ODM

Pure ODM sits around ~1.18x. That's the worst of the three on paper, but UPDATE 4 added a projectile tell to Beast Titan that gives pure ODM a ±12% bonus window. If Beast is your boss of choice, suddenly pure ODM stops being the worst and becomes a sleeper pick — especially on a Tier-B or Tier-C serum where the raw base is already low.

Luck stacking — do it in this order

Luck matters more than most guides admit. Each tier roughly adds +15% effective through drop and proc stacking. My priority order, if you're starting fresh:

  1. Hit Luck II before you care about serum tier. The difference between Luck 0 and Luck II is around 30%, which is a full-tier serum upgrade for most of us.
  2. Then chase Tier-A serum. Not Tier-S. Tier-A drops enough that you can realistically get one.
  3. Push Luck III. Beyond III the gains compress; Luck IV is roughly +15% on top of III, but the grind to IV is around double the grind from II to III.
  4. Only then touch shifter mods. They're fun but marginal.

Boss-by-boss picks

Armored: Titan Shifter, Tier-A, Luck II. Skip Ackerman here, the nape fix hurts.
Colossal: Ackerman, Tier-A or higher, Luck III. Big hitbox loves crits.
Beast: Pure ODM, Tier-B acceptable, Luck III. The projectile tell is the whole trick.

What I'm skipping for now

I'm not running party builds yet. Everything above is solo numbers. If you're in a 4-stack my advice is: test for yourself, party multipliers are a mess I haven't untangled. I also haven't touched the new Thai server, which anecdotally ticks differently.
